Pro/PROGRAM is very easy to use and apply. An intermediate Pro/E user can pick it up in a day or so comfortably. But it becomes a problem for users and companies very quickly because its primary interface (the text editor) has no visual component to it, it is just 'text'. As a result, additions or changes to logic are very hard to visualize and manage.
Since we have been avid fans of Pro/E since we stared using it (rev 7), and do a TON of consulting with some of PTC's largest customers on how to automate Pro/E, Nitro-Program came up as an internal solution (a.k.a. secret consulting weapon) that has gone commercial.
The graphical nature of Nitro-Program is the reason for its success. You can easily see the logic in your designs, and more importantly, in other people's designs.
This simple ability to not only create Pro/PROGRAMs quickly and easily, but also to be able to work with other people's designs, means that the longevity of Pro/ENGINEER design is guaranteed.
